Digital Mammography

Digital imaging provides images of the breast with improved contrast, clarity and diagnostic accuracy.

When making an appointment, please remember:

  • If you have prior mammogram films from another facility, please bring them with you or have them mailed to us before your appointment. This is important for comparison to check for any diagnostic changes.
  • If you are coming in for your yearly mammogram and have had no problems, make certain one full year has passed since your last appointment for maximum insurance coverage.
  • When scheduling your appointment, it is important that you tell us if you have a personal history of breast cancer, breast implants or a disability of any kind that may require two technologists to assist with your mammogram.
  • Please make arrangements for childcare during your appointment. Due to liability issues, we are unable to watch children requiring supervision during your procedure.

Directions

We are located in the Centre Medical Sciences Building in front of Mount Nittany Medical Center. Enter the lower level through the door facing Park Avenue. The Breast Care Center is straight ahead in Suite 105.

Registration

Upon arrival, a friendly patient registration associate will welcome you and help you register. You will be asked to fill out a Patient Information Form. This form helps the radiologist understand your health history and any current breast problems you may be experiencing. There is also an area on the form for you to indicate which physician(s) should receive a copy of your mammography report.

Registration takes about 10 minutes. We need to verify your information, update our records or, if you are a new patient, add you to our medical records. We will also schedule your next appointment, if you wish.

NOTE: Please be sure to bring your insurance card and any prior mammograms from another facility.

The experience

You will be escorted to a dressing area where you will be asked to put on a gown before you are taken to the exam area. Your mammogram will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes.

The results

Your mammogram will be read by a board-certified radiologist. The films will then be read a second time by a CAD (Computer Aided Detection) System. Your physician will receive a report from our office within two to three days.

If there is an abnormal or suspicious finding, your physician will be contacted. Within one to two weeks, we will send you a letter with a summary of the findings. If you would like a copy of your entire report, please contact your physician's office.
